Happiness is finding love and each other in the big ocean.
The five Sterling silver beads from the Blue Ocean collection are all beautifully detailed and made by hand. The designer behind, is the Danish jewellery designer Søren Nielsen. Søren works by the 3,000-year-old technique ‘cire perdu’ or ‘lost wax’. This method allows for fine details to be reproduced from wax to precious metals. His design inspiration comes from sitting at the burner, letting his thoughts wonder and slowly they begin to take solid form in the wax between his hands. It comes natural to him.
When designing a bead, silver or gold, by the cire perdu technique, the design is first sculptured in wax. The next step is the casting process, which begins with a plaster model. Next, the wax is melted away and replaced by silver. When the silver bead has cooled off it is removed from the cast.
Hereafter, the cleaning process begins, to make the bead ready for oxidization. The process of oxidization is just like the natural tarnish process that air has on silver, just speeded up. When the oxidized bead is ready, it is washed and polished in a tumbler and voilá: A new bead is born.
